Seed to Fork: Get Growing

a collaboration with Ninewells Community Garden

For Get Growing, I worked alongside a team of medicine students and volunteers at the Ninewells Community Garden. The brief was called ‘Seed to Fork’ and received funding from Tesco. The goal was to spread awareness around seasonal produce and to encourage cooking with fresh, healthy ingredients. This was targeted at disadvantaged individuals in the area surrounding Ninewells Hospital. As a group we conducted interviews and gathered information from a survey. Accessibility was extremely important, and with the abundance of flats in the target area, we knew the majority of people would not have the outdoor space suitable to create a garden. With these results in mind, we decided to create a kit for growing a windowsill herb garden. We went to the local community larder to distribute our kits. The kit contained 4 seed packets, 1 mint seedling and a written instruction leaflet. I designed the instruction guide and illustrations pictured below. On the back of the leaflet there is scannable QR code that takes users to a video guide. As the only designer, I provided a unique perspective and advocated for the importance of design thinking throughout the project.
